Singapore May 2005
|
|
Had to go back to Singapore for a meeting and there I caught up with Gene (initially an online buddy) who kindly agreed to host me for a night and take me around the city.
Finally, I reached Sentosa, a place I had deliberately postponed visiting (saving it for the "next trip"). Gene is more travelled than I am and it was great to hear about his adventures especially in Europe (the next continent I will visit).
For those who think meeting online friends is not cool, think again. Sometimes, there is an unusual way of meeting extraordinary individuals!
In this trip, I also met his friend Andre whom I regard as the Lord of "Guinness"!

Chris finally made it to Manila after a long haul from Zurich. I met him a few months ago via the travel forum and learned about his intention to go island hopping in the Philippines before getting real busy again in Switzerland.
After Adam (from Australia) in 2002, Chris was the 2nd guest who stayed at my home for more than one (1) night -- which my family certainly welcomed. The next part of his journey brought him to Boracay, Cebu, Siquijor, and Moalboal.
Don't work too hard, mate!

Chris - 2nd guy from left (to be hosted May 8-10, 2005)
|
|
|
By mid-May, I will have hosted five (5) overseas travellers to Manila -- all of whom I have not met previously but have exchanged e-mails with via a travel forum or an international host-for-free approach :
All around my age (25-30yo)
1. Kian - Malaysia ; doctor in Sabah
2. Stefan - Germany ; geodetic engineer (cartography, etc)
3. Kimberly - USA ; Master in Anthropology ; teaching English in Japan
4. Monika - USA ; radio announcer from Alaska ; teaching English in Japan
5. Chris - Switzerland ; stock broker
Certainly a good risk to meet new friends.
Hopefully, I can go back to the Full Moon Party in Thailand to add more to the list (met around 40 ppl during the August 2004 party)

I'm back in Sing after 5 months. Stayed at Inn Crowd for the 2nd time and met really nice people.
No set plan, just relied on where the MRT would take me for a change.
Moved to Pan Pacific on Day 2 as I had a business meeting there.
