Miss Earth 2005 in Manila, Philippines.

Andi, Martin, Tile and I landed sat in the 2nd row of the theater and were guaranteed a fantastic view of the candidates. It was my German friends' first time to watch a live international pageant ; my 2nd. After the show, we had the chance to speak with the delegates at the ballroom of the Hyatt Hotel & Casino Manila. We arrived home at 5am. What an exciting day.

Congrats to the winners :

Miss Earth 2005 - Alexandra Braun Waldeck (Venezuela)
Miss Earth (Air) - Amell Santana (Dominican Republic)
Miss Earth (Water) - Katarzyna Borowicz (Poland)
Miss Earth (Fire) - Jovana Marjanovic (Serbia & Montenegro)

And to all the delegates we met that night, all the best on your plans after Manila ! Keep in touch.

The Germans have arrived.

I met Martin, Tile, and Andi at the Fort before I hosted them at my place the following week. They party like crazy so it was fairly easy to bring them into my clubbing world.

Did a whirlwind bar tour of Makati on the 22nd ; ended up at the Embassy. Dropped by the driving range before checking out Miss Earth 2005 at the UP Theater (separate album).

Guess I will meet them again somewhere in the world as I travel in mid-2006 amd 2007!

If you ask me what I know about Flag Football , I will not be able to give you a decent answer. Give it a few games though and everything I see on the playing field will make sense. The game lasts for an hour so it is action packed without much violence.

Thanks to Rich H for introducing me to the sport!

Cool page, Leo. looks like you're well traveled and have met some fantastic people along the way. if you're ever in NYC again, we'll go for a beer. Haha, cheers mate. Sun 4-Sep-2005 06:43

Adventures around town with Local & Overseas Friends

Me (Philippines)
Matt (US)
Felipe (Mexico)
View all 98 photos...

Over the past month, I have hosted four (4) overseas travellers : Matt (USA), Johannes (Germany), Gene (Singapore), and Andre (Singapore). Took them up the Taal crater, toured them around Manila and Makati -- if there was decent time for it.

Felipe (Mexico) works here so it was not necessary to host him. He joined our trek in Tagaytay. Matt had already left when Johannes, Gene, and Andre needed to be accommodated at my place; I'm sure he is already set for his MBA in Boston.

Celine and Kris, my fast becoming weekend night out friends (Jens was still in Germany during that weekend) were ready to head back to Embassy after the usual Greenbelt warm up.

In this album, you will also see what Johannes and I did after Gene and Andre had gone back home -- bowling at Rockwell and a brief city tour of old Manila. Had some great discoveries about Intramuros though I didn't realise it would result in a double charge for the "kalesa" we hired for that afternoon!

Hi Leo,
maybe the visitors of your fotopage are interested in some more pictures, so here is the link to my photo gallery of our common time in Manila: http://manila.johannesschlaich.de/
Thanks again for your hospitality (I cannot say this often enough) and have a good time with all your other guests!
Regards, Johannes

HR Away Day (until the 22nd)

View all 51 photos...
Upon arrival at the airport from Hong Kong (from Sydney), I grabbed the overnight bag I had previously stuffed items into for another trip -- Puerto Galera in Mindoro.

I have never been to Puerto Galera. I only heard about it from my friend Raphy Kiefer who frequents the place. But I guess he goes to another island, not Coco Beach where my officemates and I stayed for a few days.

The ferry ride to the island was troublesome. We caught the afternoon trip in a mid-size vessel that I thought would surrender to the strong waves. Pretty scary for a non-swimmer huh!

At least I was comforted by the fact that in a week's time, I was able to travel by land, air, and sea. Hehe.

I didnt have much time to check out the shores of Coco Beach as we were busy trekking but my impression is that it is coral-filled. It was probably better to hang out by the pool (note: non-swimmer) next time I find myself there.

You will probably notice some "pageant" photos in this album. There was a unique contest the organisers held ; the photos will reveal the creativity of the people behind the work!
